Many natural and engineering processes involve the coupling of free-flow and flow in porous media. Well-known examples include flows in karst aquifer, seawater intrusion, oil recovery in karstic geometry, PME fuel cell, and all filtering processes. Here we discuss appropriate interface boundary conditions that are physically and mathematically sound. Recent results on the well-posedness the coupled system as well as its asymptotic behavior at the physically important small Darcy number limit will be presented.
