We address the question: Are solutions to equations of viscous flows initiated by density given by a characteristic function of a set regular and unique? The positive answer is possible for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations as the bulk/volume viscosity is large. The limit case of the homogeneous incompressible NSEs will be discussed too.
The talk will be based on results with Raphael Danchin: RD, PBM: Compressible NSEs with ripped density, arXiv; RD, PBM: The incompressible NSEs in vacuum, CPAM2019.
