报告摘要
In this talk, I introduce the background, basic notions, and fundamentals for SL(2,C)-character varieties of knots, which roughly speaking are spaces of conjugacy classes of SL(2,C)-representations of knot groups. In particular, the proof for the following result will be explained: each component containing an irreducible character has dimension at least one. Then I give examples of knots whose character varieties contain components of dimension at least two (and can be arbitrarily high). Some research problems related to this topic will also be introduced.
