In this talk we present global-in-time existence and uniqueness results for weak solutions to the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with striated density. In two dimensions, these results hold provided the bulk viscosity coefficient is sufficiently large, while an additional smallness condition on the initial energy is required in three dimensions. The proof relies on a series energy estimates, which, combined with the striated regularity of the density function, yield the (local-in-time) boundedness for the velocity gradient. Specifically, the density-patch problem in the exterior domain for compressible viscous fluids with a W^{2,p}-interface is solved. This is joint work with S.M. Zodji (Paris).
