报告摘要
Since Hempel introduced the Heegaard distance, any 3-manifold admitting a distance at least 3 Heegaard splitting is hyperbolic. A natural question arises: what is the geometry of a distance 2 Heegaard splitting? We show that for a distance 2 Heegaard splitting, it can have a nontrivial JSJ decomposition or be hyperbolic. This is a series of joint works with Xinwen Cao, Wenjie Diao, Ruifeng Qiu and Junhua Wang.
