In this talk, we consider the motion of viscous and incompressible fluid under the action of gravity/buoyancy in a stripe domain, which can be modelled by the inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes equations/Boussinesq equations without thermal conduction. Under a general Reyleigh-Taylor's stability condition (heavier/colder fluid under lighter/warmer one) on the density/temperature distribution, we show the equilibrium state is asymptotically stable, together with explicit decay rates of the solution evolved from the initial data closed to it. These are joint work with Lihua Dong and Jianguo Li.
